Charles Andrews, Martha B. King Middle School, Bradenton, organized a project to stop erosion on an ancient Indian mound. With approval from the state, he began a drive for volunteers and equipment. Nine months later, Andrews and his team of volunteers spent more than 250 hours laying erosion control matting and soil over the area and planting more than 470 plants to hold the soil and slope.
"If people got together and volunteered for their communities more often, maybe there would be less hatred and vandalism, and more peace and caring."
