Erik Reedy, Topeka West High School, formed the Youth Action Coalition (YAC) to improve the quality of life in Topeka. Composed of more than fifty students from five area high schools, YAC has supported many community projects including the AIDS Memorial Quilt, Kids Voting Kansas, Make-a-Difference Day, phone book recycling, day care programs and many other projects. Reedy started YAC with funds from a Learn and Serve America grant.
"The greatest thing I learned from my volunteering is that a person can be valuable to his community at any age. Volunteering is really helping me to make the bridge between being active in high school and being active in the community."
