Vanessa Milsom, Saint John's School, San Juan, headed the planning and construction of a home for Project Rescue, a local non-profit organization that provides a supportive family environment for neglected and abused boys. After hosting several fundraising events and writing for donations, Milsom personally collected $7,000 to purchase a "house kit" from a local construction company. She and several volunteers worked eight-hour days for a month to complete the construction.
"Volunteering isn't charity and it isn't a handout - it's about friendship, caring, and change. The only way change can be accomplished is one person, and one project, at a time."
