Kym Williams, 14, of Jefferson Jr. High School in Washington, D.C., started volunteering in a soup kitchen when she was only ten years old. Today, she gives up every other Saturday afternoon to help prepare and serve meals to the homeless, elderly and hungry in her area. "I do this as a responsibility to my community," said Kym. When Kym began her service, she realized that she was the only young person volunteering. So, she recruited a few cousins who now volunteer with her and her grandmother. "I learned to be reliable and punctual because others are counting on me," Kym said.
