Elisha Evans, 17, of Dakota Valley High School in McCook Lake, South Dakota, volunteered as an educational assistant for first-graders in her school district. She spent four hours each day reading to the children, helping on field trips, grading papers, and designing bulletin boards. Elisha would like to be a primary school teacher. "Learning that I could only do so much for these kids was sad, because life won't be easy for some of them," said Elisha, who learned a lot about herself during her time with the children. "Life and volunteer work are great teachers."
