Jennifer Larson, 13, of Spearfish Middle School in Spearfish, South Dakota, organized a backyard carnival for three years in a row to benefit a campaign for a new library in town. Her love of reading and her frequent use of the old library motivated her to help raise money for the new facility. Jennifer recruited many of her friends to help design and build carnival games, blow up balloons, make and distribute flyers, and sell tickets. "The tickets are 5 cents each and are sold in my playhouse," she said. All told, she has raised nearly $200 for the library campaign. "If you think about it, $200 is a lot of nickels," said Jennifer.
