State Honoree

Christine Finkbeiner

Christine Finkbeiner, 15, of Belgrade, Mont., a sophomore at Belgrade High School, founded and coordinates “Big Enough To Serve, Small Enough To Care,” an annual collection drive to provide care packages of toiletries for the Red Cross and a local shelter. After volunteering at a local child abuse and battered woman’s shelter, Christine recognized the need for personal items and toiletries at the shelter and thought that care packages would bring a little cheer to the resident’s lives. She contacted family members, friends, newspapers, hotels, hair salons and other local businesses for donated items, which resulted in more than 200 care packages last year. This year, her collection drive provided 1,000 care packages. “You don’t have to be a certain age, size, race, or gender to make a difference,” said Christine. “All it takes is someone who is thoughtful, caring and willing to give of themselves.”
