Distinguished Finalist

Paul Tran, 14, of San Diego, Calif., a member of Volunteer San Diego and a freshman at The Preuss School UCSD in La Jolla, helped coordinate a mentoring and tutoring program that provides academic support to underprivileged students in an attempt to keep them in school and enable them to succeed in life. He recruited fellow students to serve as mentors and tutors; arranged for them to help kids with math, science and computer skills; and raised funds to support his activities.
