Distinguished Finalist

Kurt Lockhart, 17, of Ames, Iowa, a student at Ballard High School in Huxley, raised more than $7,000 to benefit Ronald McDonald Houses in Des Moines and Iowa City by organizing eight "disc golf" tournaments over a two-year period. Kurt, who was responsible for all aspects of the fund-raisers as the tournament director, wanted to give back to Ronald McDonald Houses because, years ago, he and his family had stayed at one during his sister's long-term illness.
