Distinguished Finalist

Kayla Schrimshaw, 14, of Independence, Missouri, a freshman at William Chrisman High School, volunteered every day for six months to help an abused mentally retarded man learn to trust people again. She also is an active community volunteer, helping to mentor children at the YMCA, volunteering at a battered women's shelter, and working with the Boys and Girls Club.
