Distinguished Finalist

Amber McCarthy, 15, of Bethel, Minn., a freshman at Southwest Junior High School in Forest Lake, has spent the past four years helping a friend adapt to being blind. Amber has worked with her friend on class assignments, created ways to include him in classes and physical education activities, led him in the marching band, and helped him take part in many other activities that otherwise would have been highly challenging.
