Distinguished Finalist

Caroline Hawkins, 17, of Nashville, Tenn., a senior at Harpeth Hall School, founded "Joy for Jinja," a pen pal and support program that pairs more than 50 students at her school with abused and abandoned children attending school in Jinja, Uganda. Caroline, who began her program after visiting the town, also sends school supplies, books and clothes, and sponsors one local girl's school and medical fees for one girl from Jinja.
