Distinguished Finalist

Kyle Ashby, 16, of Boise, Idaho, a junior at Bishop Kelly High School, co-founded "Friends Through Books" with her sister in 2009 and has since raised more than $30,000 and provided more than 25,000 books to students in the Caribbean island of Carriacou. Kyle and her sister, who have raised the funds through donations and summer jobs, also have provided thousands of dollars in school supplies, funded eye surgery for two young women, and started a junior college scholarship program that helped send six students to community college on the island.
