Scholarship program seeking each U.S. state's top youth volunteers

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In this time of disruption due to COVID-19, it’s more important than ever to celebrate young people making a difference through volunteer service.

Today through November 10, Prudential Financial and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) are calling on youth volunteers in every U.S. state and the District of Columbia to apply for scholarships and national recognition through The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.

Students in grades 5-12 are invited to apply for 2021 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards if they have made meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteering within the past 12 months — virtually or otherwise. The application is available at http://spirit.prudential.com.

This year marks a milestone for The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards: its 25th annual celebration. So, its organizers had planned a particularly memorable tribute to its middle and high school honorees in celebration of their outstanding volunteer service. The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards selects 102 student volunteers to earn $1,000 scholarships, silver medallions and trip to nation’s capital

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- They're taking on food insecurity, opioid abuse and veteran homelessness. Several are leading projects to strengthen their local ecosystems. Many created new opportunities for inclusion and connection amongst their peers.

Those are just some stories of the 102 youth volunteers – two from each state and the District of Columbia -- who today were named State Honorees by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a nationwide program honoring students in grades 5-12 for outstanding volunteer service.
